Nurturing Leaders for Tomorrow's World

Hola , I am Dayra Lorena De La Cruz, first grade teacher at International Spanish Language Academy. I was born in Colombia. I went to school there to become a teacher. I graduated from Santiago de Cali University. I taught for nine years in Colombia and this is my second year teaching in the United States. I think it's very important for people to know more than one language. That's why I love teaching so much at this school. I have an opportunity to teach my students Spanish and to share my culture and introduce Colombia to them. I was lucky to work in Colombia teaching all age groups of people but I found that I enjoyed teaching young children the most.

The
following are the behavior expectations in first grade:
1. “Dame
5”
2. 3
cards (green, yellow, red) and stamps/stickers/notes in “Cuaderno de
comunicación.”
3. Triangle
of logical consequences (descanso, loss of privilege, you break it you fix it)
4. Descanso—students
take a break for up to 3 minutes to reflect on behavior.
5. Buddy
room (if “descanso” is has been used many times and not effective in changing a
behavior, students will be sent to the teacher’s “buddy room” for several
minutes).
