Visanthe Shiancoe and Vikings Cheerleaders Come to ISLA!
Visanthe Shiancoe, Vikings cheerleaders Amanda & Alysia and NFL staff presented a $10,000 check to ISLA as part of the NFL 60 Super School program. ISLA was named the Play 60 Super School for Minnesota. On Friday, September 10th the ISLA-PTO met the NFL challenge of organizing a Back to Football Friday, a Health and Wellness Family Night for students and their families. Families sported Vikings jerseys or plain purple shirts and participated in a punt/pass/kick station, an obstacle course, a mini-wellness fair and massages by Wellspring Health Center (a Hopkins business). They also participated in a drive to fill up a food pyramid with healthy donations for a local food shelf. At 7 pm all the families gathered together for a picture spelling out Go Vikings! We are so thankful for out PTO, the NFL, Visanthe Shiancoe and the MN Vikings organization and the MN Vikings cheerleaders for their donation of time, effort and money to support the health and wellness of ISLA students!
There was a segment on KARE-11's 4 pm and 6 pm news. Click here to see the 4 pm segment. The segment is at about the 19 minute mark. Future segments will be shown at noon on KARE-11 during the Vikings weekly show and at 10 am on Sunday on Fox Sports North.

ISLA Named Minnesota NFL Play 60 Super School
The ISLA PTO accepted the NFL challenge and organized a Back to Football Health and Wellness Night and through this event, the school was awarded $10,000. The above was related to the NFL Play 60 campaign which encourages students to stay active and participate in physical activity for 60 minutes every day. To celebrate the award we declared December 7th Vikings' Day at ISLA. It was a non-uniform day and all students were encouraged to wear their Vikings apparel or purple.
On December 7th, ISLA students welcomed Vikings TE Visanthe Shiancoe, Vikings cheerleaders, Amanda and Alysia, Vikings mascot, Viktor and NFL staff. Visanthe Shianco presented Karen Terhaar and Brenda Fromm a check for $10,000 that will be used to put in a playground for ISLA students. Thirty ISLA students chosen by lottery participated in a model physical education class.

MAIN Immersion Celebration! On February 5, 2008 ISLA students participated in a grand celebration of language learning. Children from nineteen different immersion schools in the Twin Cities gathered in Northrop Auditorium and danced, performed songs, recited poetry and celebrated learning Chinese, French, German, Ojibwe, Dakota, and Spanish. How exciting to be a part of this group!
